Frequently Asked Questions
What services will be available?
Meeting room, library computers, WiFi, printing, scanning, copying, restroom, as well as browsing, using, and checking out library items (e.g. books, audiobooks, magazines, etc.).
Why was the Chuckatuck Library chosen to install this new initiative?
Chuckatuck Library is staffed and open to the public on Mondays from 10 AM – 8 PM. This initiative will provide community members with additional, more flexible, and expanded access that mirrors the Suffolk Public Library business hours at the other locations.
What will change about current library services?
This initiative will provide an expansion of services and allow for the community to use the Chuckatuck Library more often. The current plan is to continue offering regular library hours on Mondays from 10 AM – 8 PM. The External Lockers will continue to remain available 24 hours per day and 7 days per week for the pickup of requested items. Staff will continue to visit the library daily to provide delivery of items, restock the external lockers, and inspect the inside of the building.
How will I update/get a new library card?
Getting a library card is available at any of the three locations and online. Replacing a library card would need to be done by visiting any of the three locations during regular hours.
How will I check out my books?
We are excited to share that this initiative also included the installation of a Self Checkout station at the Chuckatuck Library. This will be available during regular hours and Open+ hours.
How will I get help if needed when using copier, computer or printing?
Staff will be available via telephone to assist with basic technical instruction and help with resolving issues.
Will the meeting room be available?
This initiative will allow community members to reserve and use the meeting room according to the Library's Meeting Room policy and procedures.
Will the entire library be available?
At all of our three locations, there are areas of the library that are not accessible to the community. These include staff only areas, building control areas, and storage. These will be restricted and clearly marked.
How is this initiative being funded?
The Library is using existing funding available in the library’s information technology (IT) budget.
What if I have additional questions?
