Outreach

Outreach Services Mission Statement

At Suffolk Public Library, Outreach Services are personalized and accessible. Outreach Services are brought directly to customers in order to reduce gaps in access and increase community connections.

When selecting locations for outreach, we prioritize communities with:

  • Low-income level and high risk factors
  • Traditionally underserved populations
  • Physical barriers to library locations including distance, ability, and accessibility
Outreach Services take a variety of forms and SPL works closely with partners to find the right fit for the community. Current Outreach Services at SPL consist of the following:

Book Bikes

Bookbikes extend SPL's ability to connect community members to library resources in their own backyards. Bookbikes can be seen in the neighborhoods surrounding Morgan Memorial Library and at community events.

Library2Go

Visit Library2Go stops around the community to check out books, play as a family, do crafts, and more! Library2Go is a library on wheels or bookmobile that provides library services to  neighborhoods and community partners. In addition to a collection of high interest books, Library2Go provides access to technology like free Wi-Fi and enrichment opportunities like make-and-take activities.

Library2Go is also available to the public for community events and specific requests. Request Outreach Services here.

Pop-Up Library

Pop-Up Libraries are library experiences outside of library locations tailored to match the needs and interests of intended customers. Pop-Up Libraries are a great alternative to the Library2Go when the vehicle is not available or appropriate.

Neighborhood Walks

Neighborhood Walks are short visits on foot to local communities around Suffolk. Library staff walk through a variety of neighborhoods ready to answer questions about libraries and the services we provide including information about programs, events, our buildings and books. Neighborhood Walks are a great way to learn about all the exciting things Suffolk Public Library has to offer and maybe even pick up a free book or two.
