The New Downtown Suffolk Library has been in the planning stages since 1999. It is going to serve as a library resource center and destination for the entire city and provide services and resources currently unavailable. The new library will provide:
- Approximately 37,000 square feet (current building is only 15,000 square feet).
- State of the art equipment with over 100 public access computers, a maker space creator lab, a digital maker lab, and an automated materials handling sorter.
- Much needed and enhanced meeting areas with state of the art technology (dividable large meeting room with warming kitchen, two medium size conference rooms, and ten group study rooms).
- Over 5,700 square foot area for children and their families.
- Almost 1,500 square foot area for young adults.
- Space for both Early Childhood Development Commission (ECDC) and Suffolk Literacy Council.
