Battle of the Books Interest Meetings

Calling all fourth through eighth grade readers! We're gearing up for this school year's Battle of the Books (BOB), and we want you to join! BOB is a game-show style reading competition where students are encouraged to read and answer questions based on selected titles. New this year! In addition to our elementary school competition, this year we're introducing our first ever Middle School competition!

The interest meeting is a great opportunity to learn more about the books we're reading this year, the format of the competition, our upcoming BOB programs and more. We invite school media specialists and teachers who are interested in coaching, as well as fourth through eighth grade students and their caregivers who would like to know more about BOB. 

This information session will be held on several dates:

• September 23 at Morgan Memorial
• September 27 via Zoom (Sign up here)
• October 2 at North Suffolk

Get Ready for Battle: Elementary Battle of the Books Discussion Programs [LIVE]

On select Mondays at 6:30 pm via Zoom

Join us for our Elementary Battle of the Books (EL BOB) discussion programs to get ready to compete against other fourth and fifth graders in Suffolk, Chesapeake and Portsmouth, with competitions to be held in the spring. Come to each meeting prepared to discuss the stated novel and answer challenging questions. We will cover each of our EL BOB titles. Registration is required. Zoom link will be e-mailed to participants. For grades 4-5th.

• October 23rd - Amari and the Night Brothers
• November 13th - Finding Langston & Fortunately, the Milk
• December 11th - Wildoak
• January 8th - When Stars are Scattered
• February 5th - From the Desk of Zoe Washington
• March 4th - Practice

Programs will be recorded and shared with participants via the BOB Google Drive folder so they can be used for review purposes.

City Battles:  Late March/Early April 2024

Final Battle: Mid-April 2024
