Close in Heart

We recognize that the incarceration of a loved one can cause many emotions in both children and their families.  During this challenging time, it's more important than ever to stay in communication with the people you love. The "Close in Heart" letter kit encourages families to stay connected to their incarcerated loved ones by writing them a letter. Each kit includes an envelope, stamp, stationary, one book (while available), and information to connect you to community resources. The age level of the books provided are preschool, grades K-2, grades 3-5, middle school age, and teen.

Close in Heart Storytime: Ms. Shauntae leads you through a storytime including fun songs and a reading of "Far Apart, Close in Heart: Being a Family when a Loved One is Incarcerated" by Becky Birtha.

Pen a Friend

Since the library has been closed due to COVID-19, our mascot Fred has been missing all of the kids who used to come visit, play with toys and check out books. Kids are invited to tell Fred all about their summer and what they have been up to since their last library visit. Pen a Friend kits contain supplies needed to write and mail a letter to the library along with bonus coloring sheets.

How to Obtain a Kit

Visit Morgan Memorial Library or North Suffolk Library during curbside pickup hours (Mon - Fri 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) and call that location to request a kit. Available while supplies last.
